Qatar Music Academy’s Wind and Percussion Ensembles filled the Awsaj Academy Auditorium on April 25 with energy and precision, showcasing the remarkable progress made by each ensemble this term. The Percussion Ensemble, led by Dobri Paliev, kicked off the evening with a fun “Pink Panther Medley,” followed by a mature rendition of S. Hristova’s “Legends” for two marimbas, performed with poise by Wynn Toh and Eitan Cohen. Next, the Junior Symphonic Winds, under the baton of Rachel Seay, brought great character to “Creatures in the Attic” and “Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious”. On the latter piece they were joined by the Beginning Wind Ensemble, featured in their first-ever public performance! The Symphonic Winds and Percussion Ensemble delivered a varied and exciting program that included fiery solos by saxophonist Hayk Amirkhanyan and trumpet soloist Yang Zheng in Piazzolla’s “Libertango.” For the grand finale, Symphonic Winds and Junior Symphonic Winds united under student conductor Batuhan Sireli to deliver a moving performance of Edmondson’s “Celebration for Winds,” bringing a spirited conclusion to a night defined by hard work, collaboration, and fresh musical achievements. Well done to everyone!
