About the choir      

The Qatar Youth Choir (Junior and Senior) is the premier choir for young singers aged 8-19 from all backgrounds and nationalities living in Qatar. The choir specializes in a diverse repertoire, including classical, pop, rock, funk, musical theater, jazz, folk, and Arabic music. Under the direction of Mr. Zlatan Fazlić, the Academy’s director, and Mr. Abdalla Mhoul, an expert in Arab singing, and with the support of two accomplished piano accompanists, the choir offers a rich and dynamic musical experience for its members.      

Last year, both choirs performed at numerous prestigious events, including the MotoGP, the inaugural World Endurance Race, the EU Day celebration, the Mozart musical sitcom concert with the Qatar Philharmonic Orchestra, the "Summer Serenade" at the PUE Theater, the Oryx College graduation ceremony, QMA Day and many others.      

Our musical program is designed not only to help students develop their singing abilities but also to build confidence, forge new friendships, and acquire valuable life and professional skills such as teamwork, communication, leadership, and creativity.      

Vocal Requirements      

We strongly encourage all talented young singers to audition and join this exceptional choir. For this, we need singers with excellent sense of rhythm and pitch. These two basic requirements are essential for singers to confidently learn and prepare diverse and demanding choral arrangements. Previous choral experience and note-reading skills are desirable but not essential for students.      

Audition times

• Junior choir auditions (for students ages 8-12) will be held on Friday, September 13, between 9:30 A.M. and 5:00 P.M.
• Senior choir auditions (for students ages 13-19) will be held on Saturday, September 14 from 2:30pm onwards.

The audition times will be confirmed once students complete and submit the registration form (you may download the form by clicking here.

Once the form has been completed, please forward it to (qma.info@qf.org.qa) who will book your 12-minute long audition slot for the Junior Choir or 15-minute long slot for the Senior Choir audition. Singers should arrive 15 minutes before their audition time to warm up.      

Auditions will be free of charge. Due to the large number of students expected to attend, please notify our school secretary at qma.info@qf.org.qa by Thursday, September 12 at 3 pm or call our reception directly on Friday, September 13 at 4454 8192 if your child is unable to attend the audition.

Senior Youth Choir: Audition Requirements

The Senior Choir sings choral arrangements in four-part harmony (SATB).      

Due to the nature of the voices, the girls' parts (Soprano and Alto) will have slightly different audition songs than the boys' parts (Tenor and Bass).      
       

Girls’ audition (Soprano and Alto)      

1. To sing from memory the first two verses of the song 'Somewhere Over the Rainbow'.    

   
Length: From the beginning to until the 0:47 second mark.      

Lyrics      
Somewhere over the rainbow, way up high      
And the dreams that you dream of once in a lullaby.       
       
Somewhere over the rainbow bluebirds fly      
Skies are blue, and the dreams that you dare to dream, really do come true.

2. Additionally, all girls attending the audition will be also asked to sing the chorus of the song 'You Raise Me Up'  

    
   
Length: From 1:29 minute mark until 2:03 the minute mark.

2. Vocal assessment      
After you have performed your prepared song, you will be guided through some simple exercises to check your intonation, sound projection, and vocal range. This will allow us to assess everyone’s responsiveness and vocal flexibility.      
       
3. Short informal interview      
We’d like to hear from students about their musical background and why they’ve auditioned for the Qatar Senior Youth Choir.      

Please note that all current Qatar Music Academy students who would like to join the choir are still required to audition.

Boys’ audition (Tenor and Bass)      

1. To perform from memory one verse and chorus of the song 'You Raise Me Up'
